It was one of the major airlines of Canada and was established in 1961 as Contact Air. Air Mikisew had its main base in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. It operated scheduled passenger flights services to various destinations in Fort McMurray / Fort Chipewyan region. Besides providing regional passenger flights, The airline also used to provide charter flights services in private sector.
In June 2010, Air Mikisew was not permitted to operate any flights due to the Violation of Canada Transportation Act. This was directed by Canadian Transportation Agency. The airline ceased to operate all its flying operations in 2011.
