The airline began as an associate of British Airlines providing domestic regional flight services with its base at Plymouth, England. Air Southwest was a subsidiary of Sutton Harbour Holdings Plc. Air Southwest Limited holds United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Type A Operating Licence. It had code share agreement with Eastern Airways.
Air Southwest Limited was established in 2003. Initially it was started with the name of Placedean Technology Limited. In 2007, with the expansion of the airline, more flights services from Plymouth to Grenoble, Cork, Dublin, Glasgow and Newcastle, and from Newquay to Grenoble, Glasgow and Newcastle were added. New flights were launched in 2009 between Plymouth, Newquay and London City Airport. More than 90% of the flight ticket booking of Air Southwest were being made online.
Air Southwest announced to stop all its flight operations in September, 2011.
