Often called Thai Air is an airline based in Thailand. It was established in 1960. The airline is a founding member of the Star Alliance Network. THAI airways operates some of the longest non-stop commercial international flights, including routes from Bangkok to New York and to Los Angeles. Its main hub is in Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The airline has joint venture with Scandinavian Airlines System and operates its first flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport along with a domestic carrier in May, 1960. In April 1988, the two merged and became the ‘Thai International Airlines’. In May 2005, the airline began a non-stop Bangkok-New York service with a new A340-500 aircrafts, and Bangkok-Los Angeles started in December 2005 with same aircrafts.
Thai Airways International operates direct flights between Bangkok to Johannesburg with A340-600 aircraft from October 2006. Skytrax awarded Thai Airways International 'Worlds Best Cabin Staff' in 2006, while placing second in the 'Airline of the Year' category in 2007.
