The airline started its first scheduled services between Paramaribo and Moengo in 1955. The partners include METS N.V and Residence Inn N.V.
The official creation of Surinamese Luchtvaart Maatschappij was set up in August 1962. The airline became the national carrier from the Netherlands in November 1975. Surinam Airlines is wholly owned by the Suriname government.
