The airline was the national airline of Cambodia, based in Phnom Penh. The airline was established in 2000. Royal Khmer operated scheduled passenger services from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to different destinations like Cambodia, Malaysia and South Korea. Its main base was in Pochentong International Airport.
The airline stopped all its operational services in 2007.

The airline became functional in October 2003. It began its operations in December 2005. In October 2003, Asia Aircraft Services from Malaysia opted to buy the Royal Khmer airline and started operating permit to launch services.
