This is the national carrier airline of Montenegro. It was established in October 1994 by the government of Montenegro. It operates scheduled flight services in Europe and Africa. Its main base is in Podgorica Airport.

The airline purchased the first aircraft, a Fokker 28 Mk4000 in 1996 and Fokker 28 Mk4000 in 1998. In April 2000, Montenegro Airlines became a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The Airline purchased Fokker F100 in 2001. On 2007 Montenegro Airlines ordered 2 Embraer 195 in fleet. In 2003, it became a user of the ‘Amadeus System’.
