This is one of the most famous national airline based in Windhoek, Namibia (a neighboring country of South Africa) and is the national carrier of Namibia. It started with name South West Air Transport in 1946, changed into Suidwes Lugdiens in 1959. The airline was established in 1946, and started operations in 1948. It was later renamed South West Airways in 1959. Air Namibia merged with it and the airlines was renamed in 1978. Lugdiens The government of Namibia acquired majority shareholdings in 1982, and it becomes a national airline in 1987. It was renamed again to the to Air Namibia in October 1991, when the country got independence. In 2002 it optimized the schedules for connecting flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg. In early 2006, Air Namibia has obtained a second A340-300. In November 2006, it launches the third flight to Luanda, Angola.
