In 1983, 3 new Boeing 737s was launched. In 1986, Air Malta ordered 2 new 737s, and in 1987 ordered its first Airbus A320 was purchased. The Air Malta Cargo Systems and Transshipment Centre were officially inaugurated on January 1994.
In June 2002 Air Malta and Lufthansa Technique AG get merged into a new joint venture. In 2004 it has been awarded the ISO 9001-2000 certification by Moody International Certification Ltd for its airside ground handling services.
