Aerolíneas Profile
-
Aerolíneas Argentinas entered the airline business in 1929 dedicated to providing fast and reliable service throughout South America and the world. It was created as a State company by National Executive Power decree No. 26099. On November 21st, 1990 a consortium headed by Iberia takes charge of the company, and changes its company name to Aerolineas Argentinas SA.
In 1946 the first Douglas DC-3s arrived in Argentina, and Argentina's first intercontinental airline, FAMA, was created.
Its operations started on December 1950. On 2 March ‘Tres Marías’, which became the first jet airplane flown by Aerolíneas, landed at Ministro Pistarini International Airport. In1989 the government authorized the privatization of the airline. It is interesting to note that Aerolineas Argentinas is a major sponsor of the Argentinean national football team. Its total employees are about 6000.
